Chief Minister of Kerala V S Achuthanandan laid the foundation stone for the new IT park on 10th Feb 2009. Minister for Education M A Baby presided over the function. Other dignitaries present were , Minister for Revenue K P Rajendran, Minister for Transport, Printing & Stationery Mathew T Thomas, Minister for Works Mons Joseph, Minister for Labour & Excise P K Gurudasan, Kollam District Collector A. Shahjahan, IT Secretary Ajay Kumar, Technopark CEO Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Technopark business development senior manager M Vasudevan.
Three more Techno Lodges (Rural IT Parks) will be set up in the Kollam district. District Collector A.Shajahan has said that the government accorded sanction to start the IT Parks at Poothakkulam, Anchal and Veliyam grama panchayats. With this, the total number of IT Parks in the district will become five. The Perinad and Kadakkal grama panchayats have already handed over the renovated buildings to the Assentia Company functioning at Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram. The Techno Lodges are being set up as part of the IT policy of the State Government to extend the benefits of the IT revolution to the rural areas.
